MARTIAL ARTS INTER SERVICES CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 On 16th-17th July 2022, the Royal Navy Royal Marines Mixed Martial Arts Association hosted the Martial Arts Inter Services Championship 2022 at HMS Nelson, Portsmouth. It is the first Martial Arts Inter Services Championship since 2019, as COVID-19 discontinued 2020 and 2021 championships. Service members from a variety of martial arts disciplines, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), World Taekwondo Federation (WT), International Taekwondo Federation (ITF), and Kendo, competed in the Martial Arts Inter Services Championship 2022. The Army Karate team was unable to compete, so a different championship will be held for the Karate team later this year. ITF and WT are quite similar and both have their roots in Korean martial arts, although WT is more of a sport, and ITF is more of a traditional self-defense. Four of the 13 competitors in this year's WTF, WO Hewett, LET La Roche, AB Lee, and Cpl Bevan, represented the Royal Navy. Receptively, LET La Roche and AB Lee took home a silver and a gold. There were 14 competitors for the ITF, including WO Hewett, Cpl Bevan, AWW Shepherd, and CS Pedley from the Royal Navy.
